There is an argument to be made that if we're in a simulation and humans are the main focus then this could be a porn sim. In that case, I would guess that it's not just the act that is being mined by the sim masters but all the time that humans spend thinking about sex. That's one guess, I would venture another guess that what is being mined from our sim is simply whatever humans will spend most of their time doing throughout our entire biological history. It could be sex or it could be a lot of other things. It could be something in the future that we haven't started doing yet. (By 'mined' I just mean the purpose of the sim, if there is one).

Yup. I mean, personally, my money is on the "tarted up apes accidentally creating a god" thing, but there's no reason it couldn't be something even bigger and more improbable in the future.

Also no reason it couldn't serve two (or multiple) purposes - there are novels and movies that communicate something in addition to the literal stories they portray, right? They tell a story, but also communicate about the ineffable lightness of being, or the true meaning of love, or the folly of a certain way of thinking. And there's an additional layer of artistry you can achieve by choosing and weaving the character's natures and various plot points and the nature of the story being told to support the larger message.

Presumably, our simulators could have something like that going on too, probably at a higher-dimensional level than we can infer, given that we're embedded within it.

I just hope this isn't leading up to the equivalent of a pun or just-so story like "and that's how the god of drawing a dick on somebody's face with a sharpie came to be." (And this is why, even today, 2B years later, you can find some remote star systems stellar engineered into the shapes of fascinums)

But you know, even in that case I'm still pretty glad we got simulated?
